NTPC and CEB began 50 MW solar project in Sri Lanka

NTPC Limited and Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has started work on a 50 MW solar project in Sri Lanka’s Eastern Province through joint venture TPCL.

India-based NTPC Limited, an integrated power company, has started works on a 50 MW solar power project in Sri Lanka. It is planning to expand it to 120 MW. The project is in the Eastern Province. It is being built by Trincomalee Power Company Limited (TPCL). TPCL is a joint venture between NTPC and the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB). The planned investment is about $100 million. TPCL has signed agreements with CEB and the Sri Lankan Government for the first 50 MW phase.The project is expected to support Sri Lanka’s energy mix by reducing fossil fuel use and avoiding about 200,000 tons of CO2 emissions each year.The event took place during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Sri Lanka from 04 to 06 April, along with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
