A new survey from IEA PVPS, with 110 experts, has unveiled VIPV’s potential in reducing vehicle charging needs. Efficiency, km/year, and range top the list of vital system properties, while manufacturing complexity poses a significant challenge. By 2030, cost targets aim for a 60% reduction, pushing VIPV systems to less than $1/W. Crystalline silicon currently leads, with perovskites and tandem tech expected to rise by 2030. Back contact tech, notably IBC, gains preference, influenced by aesthetics for PV cover material choices. As VIPV progresses, color preferences split, indicating a niche market. The survey stresses the necessity for industry collaboration to shape VIPV’s future.
