Aptera, headquartered in Carlsbad, California, is advancing solar vehicle technology and plans to increase production of batteries, frames, and bodies locally. To support Aptera, HG Fenton installed a high-efficiency solar system on its Carlsbad facility, featuring 892 Silfab Commercial panels with a total capacity of 446.0 kW Solar-powered vehicles pose more significant challenges than solar-powered buildings, says Silfab. According to HG Fenton, the building owner, this system will generate 703,284 kWh annually, nearly meeting Aptera’s energy needs and providing substantial cost savings. The installation aligns with Aptera’s sustainability goals and offers a retention incentive for employees. For HG Fenton, the project is financially advantageous, with an estimated net operating income of $5,700,000 over 25 years and a 48% Internal Rate of Return (IRR).
