First Solar investigates TOPCon technology infringements

US based First Solar, Inc. has announced its ownership of patents related to TOPCon solar cell manufacturing recently, secured through its acquisition of TetraSun, Inc. in 2013. These patents cover various jurisdictions, including the U.S., Canada, China, and Japan and are valid until 2030. The company is investigating several crystalline PV manufacturers for potential patent infringement and is prepared to take legal action to protect its rights. The acquisition of TetraSun has strengthened First Solar’s intellectual property portfolio, allowing the latter to pursue enforcement, licensing, and other measures to safeguard its TOPCon technology.
