SolarBank begins Alberta rooftop solar project construction

US-based SolarBank Corporation is undertaking a 1.4 MW DC rooftop solar project for Fiera Real Estate in Alberta, with construction beginning on July 15, 2024, and completion expected by November 2024. This initiative aims to help Fiera Real Estate achieve its Net Zero Carbon goal by 2040. Major equipment has been delivered, and scaffolding is already set up. The recent wildfires in Alberta highlight the urgent need for renewable energy, making this project vital for reducing carbon emissions. According to SolarBank, the company, supported by Zathura Investments, will manage development and EPC services. Fiera Real Estate, which manages over USD 7 billion in commercial real estate, is part of Fiera Capital Corporation—overseeing more than USD 122 billion in assets. Project’s potential risks include shifts in government incentives and solar energy policies.
