UAE-based EWEC (Emirates Water and Electricity Company) has invited developers and consortiums to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) for the Zarraf Solar project in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafra region. According to EWEC, the greenfield solar project will generate 1.5 GW (AC), enough to supply electricity to approximately 160,000 homes, while cutting down over 2.4 million metric tons of CO2 emissions annually. This will raise EWEC’s solar capacity to around 7 GW. The project, designed under Abu Dhabi’s independent power project model, involves construction, financing, operation, and long-term PPAs, with EWEC as the sole electricity buyer. Interested developers must submit their EOIs by October 22, 2024. After the review, EWEC will release the Request for Qualifications (RFQ), followed by a Request for Proposal for qualified bidders.
