Etihad Rail, in collaboration with Emerge, a joint venture between Masdar and EDF Group, is launching a 600 kW PV system and a 2.56 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) to decarbonize the Ghuweifat freight terminal. This project, which will supply up to 85% of the terminal’s energy, aligns with the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 strategy. The initiative will reduce CO2 emissions by over 8,500 tons and support Etihad Rail’s environmental sustainability goals. By integrating solar technology, the Ghuweifat terminal will become largely self-sufficient, setting a precedent for green logistics in the region. Etihad Rail says this project underscores its commitment to reducing emissions in the transport sector and demonstrates the potential for sustainable infrastructure development.
