US-based Enphase Energy has introduced a new configuration enabling California homeowners with legacy NEM 1.0 and 2.0 solar systems to expand without transitioning to the less favorable NEM 3.0 tariff. According to Enphase, this setup uses IQ Microinverters, IQ Batteries, and Enphase Power Control, helping homeowners meet growing energy needs while retaining higher export compensation under older NEM programs. The system has received approval from Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) and Southern California Edison (SCE), with San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) expected to follow. Enphase claims this configuration lowers electricity costs for homeowners and creates growth opportunities for solar installers. Additionally, Enphase’s Solargraf software optimizes system designs for maximum savings under California’s solar energy rules, helping the transition.
