Wattlab a Dutch clean‑tech company for the maritime industry, was recognised with the IBJ Environmental Protection Award for its Solar Flatrack system. The company noted that the system was engineered to generate solar electricity at sea. It was designed to lower fuel use and reduce associated emissions during voyages. The system was built for rapid installation and durable operation with minimal disruption. TNO had validated the system’s performance, energy yield and financial return. Vertom Group had supported two pilot projects and the full installation on MV Vertom Tula. These deployments confirmed consistent behaviour under operational maritime conditions. Wattlab acknowledged IBJ and The CSL Group Inc. for highlighting the system’s relevance. The company added that partner involvement strengthened project execution, technical validation and overall deployment outcomes. A related update can be seen in our coverage of Berge Rederi and Wattlab equipping the BRF Froan with a solar system in Rotterdam.
