Tunisia’s government has awarded the development of a 132 MW solar power project in the Gabès region to Voltalia, a France-based renewable energy company. The Wadi facility is scheduled to begin construction in 2027, with its commissioning planned for 2028. Once operational, the deployment is expected to generate power sufficient to meet the electricity needs of around 200,000 residents and avoid around 120,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually. This latest award follows Voltalia’s previous selections for the Sagdoud project in May 2024 and the Menzel Habib project in December 2024. With the addition of the Wadi project, Voltalia now has nearly 400 MW of solar projects planned to enter the construction phase in Tunisia. Recently, Voltalia has initiated a hybrid power plant in Sainte-Anne integrating solar PV, battery storage, and backup generation.
