Norway-based renewable-energy provider Scatec, has announced the commercial operation of the second phase of the Mmadinare Solar Cluster in Botswana. The 120 MW Mmadinare Solar Cluster is Scatec's first project portfolio in Botswana, with its first phase having been operating since March 2025. Scatec does own the full portfolio but is planning to reduce its long-term interest by adding equity partners. The company has noted that the second phase has reached commercial operation ahead of schedule and within budget. Together, the two plants are expected to generate 280 GWh annually, offsetting an estimated 380,000 tonnes of COâ‚‚. Both the phases are delivering electricity to Botswana Power Corporation under a 25-year PPA. Scatec will be providing operation, maintenance, and asset-management services as the facilities are entering steady operation.
