RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, part of Essen-based energy group RWE, has commissioned several solar farms along Germany’s A44n motorway in North Rhine-Westphalia. These assets totals 86.5 MW (74.6 MW AC) of installed capacity after around eight months of construction. According to RWE, approximately 141,000 PV modules have been installed and are anticipated to generate enough electricity to power around 27,700 German households annually. The installations are located on recultivated land at the Garzweiler opencast mine between Bedburg and Jüchen in the Rhenish region. A second phase is planned for 2026, and is subjected to planning permission. The second phase is set to add 19.9 MW (15.5 MW AC) and more than 30,600 additional modules near Jüchen. RWE contributes to a regional portfolio of 540 MW of solar and wind projects. Recently, the company was awarded FER X solar capacity across southern Italy.
