UK based Enviromena, an independent power producer, has secured planning approval for the 40 MW (AC) Fillongley Solar Farm. The approval followed a Planning Inspector overturning North Warwickshire Borough Council’s refusal. The project had been recommended for approval by planning officers but was previously rejected by councillors. The Inspector confirmed the site’s classification as Grey Belt, supporting Enviromena’s position held since July 2024. The decision followed a public inquiry that examined land status and local objections raised by Fillongley Parish Council. The ruling was expected to influence future renewable energy applications involving similar land designations. The project was expected to supply electricity to more than 16,500 homes annually and avoid about 10,000 tons of CO₂ each year. Earlier to this, Enviromena also secured planning approval for a 35 MW PV farm near Hull.
