The Asian Development Bank, a multilateral development finance institution, has approved a $1 million grant to support floating PV development in Tajikistan. The grant is intended to assess the feasibility of fPV systems as an alternative to land-based installations in a country where mountainous terrain limits available flat land. Technical experts will evaluate up to five reservoirs to determine their suitability for fPV deployment, with one site selected for a detailed feasibility study of a large-scale installation. The initiative also includes funding to modernise the financial management system of Barki Tojik, Tajikistan’s state-owned energy company, to improve operational efficiency and financial transparency. According to the report, Tajikistan’s extensive reservoir network and high solar exposure provide conditions suitable for floating PV development. Recently, Tuvalu Electricity Corporation has invited bids for a floating solar PV plant and associated services under an ADB-financed renewable energy programme.
