The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has assigned Enppi and Petrojet to construct a 10 MW solar power station at Assiut Oil Refinery, costing EGP 550m, set for completion in 11 months. Another initiative includes a 6.5 MW project at the Egyptian General Petroleum Company, valued at EGP 500m, funded by the EU under the “Support to Energy Policy Reform” programme. These initiatives aim to relieve pressure on the national grid, meet rising electricity demands while conserving petroleum fuel. Additionally, two pilot projects for solar-powered production wells, employing advanced solar cell systems and energy storage batteries, are underway. The outcomes will inform wider implementation to reduce diesel dependency, enhance operational efficiency, and promote environmental sustainability in the petroleum sector.
