D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments (DESRI) has announced the commercial operation of Elektron Solar, an 80 MWac solar facility in Tooele County, UT. Construction began in 2021 after DESRI acquired it from Enyo Renewable Energy in 2020. The project, serving a consortium of Utah customers including Salt Lake City, Park City, Summit County, Utah Valley University, Vail Resorts, and Deer Valley Resort, operates under Rocky Mountain Power’s Schedule 34, allowing customers to aggregate electricity demand for economies of scale. Elektron Solar is expected to power approximately 19,700 homes annually, with SOLV Energy managing EPC and overseeing ongoing operations and maintenance. Financing was secured from NORD/LB, National Bank of Canada, and City National Bank, with tax equity investment from Goldman Sachs & Co.
