China-based CHN Energy’s Guohua Energy has successfully connected the first units of its massive 1 GW offshore solar project in Kenli, Shandong Province. Spanning 1,223 hectares, just 8 km off the coast, the project utilizes 2,934 solar platforms with cutting-edge cable technology. Once fully operational, it will produce 1.78 billion kWh yearly—enough to power 2.67 million homes—while saving 503,800 tons of coal and slashing CO₂ emissions by 1.34 million tons. Uniquely, the project combines solar power with fish farming, maximizing the sustainable use of marine space.
