CARBON to acquire Photowatt, plans 500 MW facility

CARBON and EDF Renewables, both France-based companies have drafted an agreement for the acquisition of Photowatt, a major PV panel manufacturer. According to CARBON, this acquisition aligns with its broader solar industry development strategy in France. The company plans a €40 million investment to build a 500 MW solar module production unit, which could produce 1 million panels annually by late 2025. The facility will support growing demand for “Made in France” solar products, particularly in the residential market. CARBON aims to retain jobs at Photowatt’s Bourgoin-Jallieu site and increase its workforce to 200 by 2026. EDF Renewables, which has owned Photowatt since 2012, has also agreed to continue supporting the company’s French-made PV panels through a supply deal. Employee consultations are currently in progress regarding the agreement.
