France-headquartered Qair, an independent renewable energy company, has signed power purchase agreements with the Tunisian government. The agreements cover two solar projects: Gafsa (100 MW) and El Khobna (198 MW).These were awarded through public tenders as part of Tunisia’s concession system for large projects, managed by the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy. The energy from these projects will be sold only to the national utility, Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG). They support Tunisia’s plan to reach 30% renewable energy by 2030 and help add more variety to its energy sources. Tunisia uses three systems to manage renewable projects: one for small producers (self-consumption), one for mid-sized projects (authorization) and one for large projects (concession). Recently, Qair also awarded 26 MW solar project in Sicily.
