PureSky Energy, a Denver-headquartered developer of solar and BESS projects, has paused five proposed projects in Shutesbury, Massachusetts, citing unfavorable conditions. According to PureSky Energy, declining Solar Massachusetts Renewable Target (SMART) incentive rates, rising interconnection costs, and increasing land prices were the major challenges. PureSky Energy said broader federal policy updates have also created uncertainty, which has made financing unfeasible despite several years of planning. Derek Moretz, Vice President of Development at PureSky Energy, stated that systemic reforms are necessary for Massachusetts to achieve renewable energy targets. While development in Shutesbury was halted, PureSky Energy has redirected resources toward communities that are more supportive of renewable energy infrastructure. PureSky Energy is operating 56 MW of solar generation across 12 sites and 31 MWh of storage in Massachusetts, with nationwide expansion continuing. Earlier this year, PureSky Energy, in partnership with Eden Renewables, initiated operations of a 7.3 MW solar farm in Claverack serving low- and moderate-income households under ESFA.
