PPC builds PV & BESS hybrid project to power 60% of Astypalea Island

The South-East European PPC Group and PPC Renewables launched a hybrid project on Astypalea island with a 3.53 MW solar plant and 14.12 MWh battery system.

Athens,Greece-headquartered PPC Group, a South-East European electric utility Group, has started building a hybrid energy project on Astypalea island, Greece. The island is part of the Dodecanese and has 1,400 permanent residents. The project combines a 3.53 MW solar plant with a 14.12 MWh battery system. It is designed to meet over 60% of the islandโ€™s annual electricity demand. The system has the capacity to produce around 6.5 GWh of electricity each year. It is expected to cut carbon dioxide emissions by more than 5,700 tons annually. Construction began in June 2024. Commissioning is planned for early 2025. PPC Renewables, a PPC Group subsidiary, is managing the project. The initiative follows the Ikaria Hybrid Energy Project, which was completed earlier.PPC Group also announced plans for an 88 MW solar park in Bulgaria.
