Iberdrola España, part of the Iberdrola Group, and Mercadona have signed long-term PPAs for over 300 MW of solar and wind energy. The power will be used to supply supermarkets and logistics centres across Spain. Iberdrola España has supplied energy to Mercadona for over 20 years. It also manages 3,500 EV chargers at 800 Mercadona sites in Spain and Portugal. The new deal helps keep energy prices steady and avoids price swings. Iberdrola Group was named Europes top PPA provider for the second year, with 1.25 GW signed in 2024—38% more than in 2023. The group manages PPAs across Spain, Portugal, Germany, Italy, the UK, the US, Brazil, Mexico, and Australia. It has signed similar deals with Amazon, Bayer, BP, Telefónica, and Salzgitter. Earlier, Iberdrola also energized its first solar park in Germany to power Vodafone’s local network operations.
