Geronimo Power, a renewable energy firm located in Minneapolis that was formerly National Grid Renewables, has announced that its 125 MW Jackson County Solar Facility in Parma Township, Michigan, is nearing completion. The solar facility is being constructed on 1,400 acres across eight parcels, developed in compliance with state environmental conditions established by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy. According to Geronimo Power, the solar site was designed to preserve sensitive habitats, including wetlands and the Eastern massasauga rattlesnake’s ecosystem, by restricting construction in protected zones. Once operational, the plant will generate enough electricity to power more than 33,000 homes and offset nearly 161,300 metric tons of COâ‚‚ emissions annually. Geronimo Power has stated that the solar farm will contribute around $1.4 million in annual property tax revenue while supporting Consumers Energy’s 9 GW solar capacity expansion target across Michigan.
