Minnesota-based Geronimo Power has started construction on the 125 MW Jackson County Solar project in Michigan. The project is part of the MiSolar Portfolio in Clinton and Monroe counties and has expanded the company’s footprint in the MISO market to nearly 1 GW. Jackson is anticipated to begin operations next year and supply power for about 33,600 homes annually. It is estimated to cut 161,300 metric tons of CO2 each year and the same as taking 37,600 cars off the road. The facility is expected to bring more than $70 million in economic benefits, including $28 million in tax revenue over 20 years. Barnhart Energy Company is constructing the facility, which has created about 300 jobs. Geronimo has already developed 2.5 GW in MISO, contributing $275 million in tax revenue.
