UK-based renewable energy developer, BOOM Power’s Woolley Solar Farm was approved by Wakefield Planning Committee. The 29.7 MW project will cover 55.3 hectares near Woolley village in Wakefield. It can supply electricity to more than 11,700 homes and cut down to 7,300 tons of CO₂ each year. The site covers two land parcels linked by an underground cable to Woolley Grange. Though located in Green Belt, it was designated‘grey belt’, avoiding stricter planning tests. Wakefield Council have reviewed stakeholder concerns but deemed benefits to outweigh potential harm. Biodiversity measures include hedgerow planting, wildflower meadows and new wildlife habitats. Public footpaths remain open with safety steps during construction. The project is designed to be reversible after 40 years. The council cited contributions to energy generation, biodiversity, education and local economy as reasons for approval. Earlier, BOOM Power wins approval for 22.2 MW PV Farm in Wakefield.
