Germany-based BOOM Power has obtained planning approval for the 22.2 MW New Hall Solar Farm in Overton, Wakefield, following a successful appeal. Wakefield Council initially rejected the proposal on six grounds, later dropping two, including an incorrect Green Belt designation. A public inquiry assessed concerns about agricultural land loss, visual and landscape impact, public rights of way, and a nearby Scheduled Ancient Monument. The Planning Inspector assigned substantial weight to the project’s renewable energy contribution and energy security, with added significance given to biodiversity gains. The overall benefits were considered to outweigh the identified harm, leading to approval of the project.BOOM Power ,has also received consent for a 400MW PV project with Pelion.
