New Zealand-based Genesis has made its Final Investment Decision (FID) for the 136 MW Edgecumbe Solar Farm in the Bay of Plenty. The project is expected to generate about 238 GWh each year, supplying nearly 29,800 homes. The construction is scheduled to begin soon, with first generation targeted for mid 2027. METLEN has been appointed for EPC delivery and the first two years of operations and maintenance. Horizon Networks is responsible for designing and constructing the overhead line linking the site to the grid. Genesis has planned to fund the project on balance sheet while keeping future capital-recycling options open. The FID followed wider progress across Gen35 projects, including solar, wind, geothermal PPAs, and staged BESS developments advancing through consenting or review. This update follows earlier developments highlighted in our report on Genesis and D-T formalising their Africa clean energy partnership at AEF 2025.
