DNV, an independent assurance and risk management provider, was appointed as Owner’s Engineer for the 1GW Abydos solar PV project in Benban, Egypt. The project, developed by AMEA Power, also includes a 600MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The project is expected to generate 3,100GWh of electricity each year which is enough to power over 500,000 homes and avoid 1.5million tons of CO₂.DNV is responsible for reviewing feasibility, assessing designs, overseeing construction, and providing support through the commissioning phase. The desert location brings challenges such as extreme heat, dust buildup, and complex grid connection needs. DNV has provided design resilience, grid compliance, and BESS safety expertise. It is also offering quality control, performance testing, and knowledge transfer. Around 4,000 construction jobs are expected. The project aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2035.DNV’s role in Egypt’s Abydos solar project builds on its broader global expertise, including recent deployments of solar resource stations across Italy with Cubico.
