US-based Invenergy, a multinational power generation company, has announced that the 250 MW Hardin III Solar Energy Center in Hardin County, Ohio, has commenced operations. It is the third solar facility developed by Invenergy in the county. WEC Energy Group is the majority owner, and Microsoft will purchase electricity and RECs through a PPA. The project followed a long collaboration with the local community. It is expected to bring $180 million investment to the county, supporting schools, emergency services, and infrastructure. Construction created over 350 jobs. Invenergy Services will handle long-term operations and employ four permanent staff. The facility uses solar panels made by Illuminate USA, which is majority owned by Invenergy. Invenergy also signed a 20-year PPA with Grant PUD to supply 120 MW from its Quincy Solar project near Moses Lake.
