ENGIE North America, a US-based energy company, has commissioned two community solar farms in Knox County, Illinois. The Knox 2A and Knox 2B facilities have been made operational in Galesburg to supply electricity to the state grid. The solar farms will collectively generate more than 8.2 million kWh annually and are expected to avoid over 7,800 tons of CO2 emissions annually. In total, the Knox solar gardens will benefit 443 households and businesses. ENGIE owns and operates the facilities, while Ampion manages subscriber enrollment and customer service. More than 60% of subscriptions are reserved for low-to-moderate income households. Eligibility is linked to programs including LIHEAP, Medicaid, SNAP, and TANF. Subscribers will receive 20% savings on solar bill credits applied to monthly electricity bills. Recently, AstraZeneca has entered a nine-year agreement to source solar power from ENGIE Resources’ 114 MW Tyson Nick project.
