Ecopetrol, Colombia’s oil and energy company, has inaugurated the 26 MW La Iguana Solar Farm in Yondó, Antioquia. The facility was designed to generate 42.2 GWh annually from 42,840 panels installed on a 26-hectare site. The solar farm will supply part of the electricity required by the Barrancabermeja Refinery and the Casabe and Llanito fields, replacing about 6 percent of their demand and freeing 1.09 GBTUD of natural gas. The project also enabled an estimated reduction of 26,000 tons of CO₂ per year and contributed to Ecopetrol’s goal of reaching 900 MW of renewable capacity by 2025. The construction created 286 jobs, including 221 local positions. Community initiatives included technical training for 120 women, academic preparation support for 160 students and roof renovations at the La Patria Educational Institution funded with 800 million pesos.
