Massachusetts-based Ameresco, an energy solutions provider, has partnered with the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) to install 2.7 MW of solar systems. The project includes solar carports, shade structures and EV charging infrastructure at five middle schools. The $20.7 million bond-funded project aimed to improve energy resiliency and reduce utility costs. It formed part of a broader initiative to install solar systems at 21 schools district wide. Ameresco also provides operations, maintenance, and a 25-year performance guarantee. The installations aligned with LAUSD’s clean energy goals for 100% renewable energy by 2040 and supported the City of Los Angeles’ 2035 target. The program was expected to deliver up to $45.7 million in net cost avoidance and $168 million in utility cost savings over 25 years. Recently, BXP and Ameresco has completed a 1.3 MW solar canopy.
