US-based Ameresco Inc., an energy solutions provider, completed a $7 million solar project with partial FAA funding in partnership with Killeen Regional Airport in Killeen. The project included a 1.2 MW solar array across the terminal, rental lot, and short-term parking lot, along with an LED retrofit of all interior and exterior terminal lighting. Covered parking structures and a pedestrian walkway were also constructed. The upgrade is aimed at reducing energy costs and improving the traveler’s experience. The system is expected to offset 68% of the airport’s electricity purchases. Recently, Ameresco & HSGS JV delivers microgrid project supporting military in US.
