Hannah Solar Government Services (HSGS) and Ameresco, US-based companies, have completed a $10.9 million military microgrid at White Sands Missile Range. HSGS-Ameresco, LLC, a certified Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business, designed and built this project to provide energy generation, smart controls, and efficiency solutions for the Veterans Affairs and federal agencies nationwide. The system integrates a 700 kW solar array, a 500 kW lithium-ion battery, and a 500 kW natural gas generator to power four groundwater wells. As per the companies, an advanced microgrid controller has been installed to optimize energy distribution, ensuring 14 days of independent water and power supply without relying on civilian infrastructure. The US Army stated that the project is designed to maintain operational readiness, ensure uninterrupted water access, and enhance military infrastructure for sustained energy resilience.
