Ameresco, a US-based cleantech integrator, was awarded a GBP3.5 million (~$4.35 million) contract to install a thin-film photovoltaic (PV) system at London Stadium as part of a GBP4.35 million (~$56.3 million) climate action initiative. The project aims to generate approximately 0.85 million KWh of clean energy annually, supporting the stadium’s net-zero carbon emissions goal. This output is equivalent to powering over 250 homes each year. The installation required the use of ultra-thin solar panels with SolarEdge optimizers and inverters due to the stadium’s membrane roof, which presented challenges such as weight limits, wind loads, and shading. Ameresco plans to conduct the installation with minimal disruption through staged panel lifts and careful planning. The project also includes 25 years of operations and maintenance (O&M) services to maintain efficiency.
