The City of Pendleton, Oregon, in collaboration with cleantech integrator Ameresco, Inc., celebrated the groundbreaking for a $1.8 million solar photovoltaic (PV) canopy system at the Pendleton Wastewater Treatment and Resource Recovery Facility (WWTRRF). This state-of-the-art 240 kW solar PV system is expected to generate approximately 325,000 kWh of electricity annually, bringing the facility closer to its net-zero energy target. The project is funded through a combination of state and federal grants, utility incentives, and city resources. The project is also supported by the Oregon Department of Energy’s Community Renewable Energy Grant Program (CREP). In addition to providing clean energy, the solar canopy will enhance operational efficiency and improve water quality by shading the chlorine contact chamber.
