AMEA Power, a leading renewable energy firm in the Middle East, has begun constructing the 120 MW Kairouan Solar Project in Tunisia. This project, owned entirely by AMEA Power and operated under a Build-Own-Operate model, secured funding of $86 million from the International Finance Corporation and the African Development Bank. It was awarded through Tunisia’s Ministry of Industry and SMEs tender program, marking the first concession-based project to reach financial closure. Expected to be operational by Q4 2025, the plant will generate 222 GWh annually, providing power to 43,000 households and reducing carbon emissions by 117,000 tonnes. Project permits were approved by Tunisia’s government in May 2022.
