BayWa r.e. to power Akamai, Teradyne & Wayfair operations

Akamai Technologies, Teradyne, and Wayfair have signed an aggregated virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) through Sustainability Roundtable, Inc.’s Net Zero Consortium for Buyers with BayWa r.e. Americas. The agreement covers the renewable energy credits produced by the 135 MW (AC) Prairie Solar project in Illinois, which is expected to begin commercial operations by the end of 2025. Akamai will purchase renewable energy from a 30 MW portion, Teradyne from a 20 MW portion, and Wayfair from a 20 MW portion, contributing to each company’s sustainability and emissions reduction goals. Prairie Solar will help reduce the reliance on fossil fuels in the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) region, which had only 32% low-carbon energy in 2023. This aggregated approach allows smaller companies to access large-scale renewable energy solutions and advance their clean energy commitments.
