The African Development Bank (AfDB), based in Côte d’Ivoire, has approved a €6 million concessional financing package from its Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA) for Burkina Faso’s Dédougou solar project. This 18 MW photovoltaic plant, located 250 km west of Ouagadougou, will be one of the first IPP projects in the country. SEFA’s involvement included a €2.5 million senior concessional loan and a €3.5 million reimbursable grant. As per AfDB, the project is supported by a 25-year PPA with SONABEL, Burkina Faso’s national utility. The Dutch FMO bank also provided senior and subordinated loans to Dédougou Solaire SARL in collaboration with France-based QAIR. This project is part of the broader Desert-to-Power initiative, which aims to generate 10 GW of solar energy across 11 Sahelian nations by 2030.
