China-based Trinasolar has partnered with New Zealand’s Kiwi Solar and Trilect to launch Waikato’s first agrivoltaics project. This is Trinasolar’s third such initiative in New Zealand, blending agriculture and solar power. According to Trinasolar, the 6.5-hectare solar farm is equipped with 5,740 Vertex N 720W modules, offering up to 22.5% efficiency and generating about 6,000 MWh annually. This energy could power around 800 homes. The project introduces a novel approach, allowing sheep grazing beneath the panels, enhancing land value and rural income. With New Zealand’s solar capacity at only 500 MW, Trinasolar expects this subsidy-free project to play a vital role in helping the nation achieve its goal of achieving 100% renewable energy.
