Solar-powered microgrid powers UNHCR facility in Nigeria

US-based Polar Power, Inc. has recently completed the installation of a hybrid energy system at a United Nations High Command for Refugees (UNHCR) facility in Nigeria. The system combines solar power with traditional generators. As per Polar Power, the solution integrates PV inverters and batteries supplied by Thailand-based Leonics Ltd. with installation services provided by Nigeria-based Biohenry Ltd. While the capacity and other details of this system have not been disclosed, Polar Power claims it offers up to 70% fuel savings, reducing generator maintenance costs. Additionally, the compact solar array is ideal for remote locations. The microgrid’s capability to protect sensitive equipment from power fluctuations ensures reliability. Polar Power aims to expand its microgrid platform for disaster-prone regions, offering resilient energy solutions to organizations like FEMA.
