US-based Solar Landscape, a prominent solar developer, has announced Walmart’s investment in 74 of its community solar projects across Maryland and Illinois. According to Solar Landscape, these projects, mainly on commercial rooftops in densely populated areas, will generate 43 MW of solar power by 2025—enough to power over 3,600 homes. These rooftop installations are designed to enhance the electrical grid by reducing transmission needs and improving clean energy access. Solar Landscape claims that nearly half of these projects will lower energy costs for low- and moderate-income households, with anticipated savings of $1 million annually. The company projects that the entire portfolio will prevent 40,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually. Additionally, the initiative is expected to create over 170 full-time jobs, requiring 342,000 person-hours of installation work.
