US ITC to investigate Trina’s patent infringement claims

Trinasolar, a China-based solar technology company, has filed a complaint with the US International Trade Commission (ITC) against Runergy and Adani Green Energy Ltd. The complaint alleges that the two companies are importing and selling products in the US that infringe upon Trina’s Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) technology patents. Trina is seeking a limited exclusion order and cease-and-desist orders to prevent the importation of specific solar cells, modules, panels, and related products. Currently, Trina has additional patent infringement suits filed against Runergy in Delaware and California courts. Trinasolar claims it owns over 2,000 patents, including many related to core TOPCon technology, PERC, and Heterojunction. Moving forward, Trina plans to assess further potential patent infringements in the US market and says it is open to collaborating with partners who respect its intellectual property.
