Ameresco completes floating solar project in Utah

USA’s clean energy company Ameresco, Inc. and Mountain Regional Water Special Service District have completed what they call Utah’s first floating solar array, which is located on a holding pond at the Signal Hill Water Treatment Plant. The 587.5 kW solar array was developed in partnership with D3Energy, a floating solar PV developer, and funded partially by a $400,000 grant from Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky Award program. The system will generate 871,086 kWh of clean energy annually, offsetting 92% of the water plant’s grid consumption. This innovative project is set to reduce CO2 emissions by 609 metric tons annually, equivalent to reducing gasoline consumption by 68,474 gallons. The array was completed ahead of schedule, with construction finished by September 10, 2024, and full operation expected by October 23, 2024.
