ReNew signs green attribute deal with Microsoft

An Indian renewable energy company ReNew has signed a contract with Microsoft to supply 437.6 MW of green electricity attributes. Green electricity attributes are essentially certificates that represent the environmental benefits associated with generation renewable energy generation, but not the physical electricity itself. This contract is expected to generate over one million units of green electricity attributes annually and supports Microsoft’s goal to be carbon-negative by 2030. ReNew will contribute $15 million from the contract to a community fund aimed at environmental justice, including initiatives for women’s livelihoods and rural electrification. ReNew says this agreement is part of its broader plans to expand its renewable energy portfolio to 21 GW by FY 2029.
