India’s RE capacity hits 192 GW with 12.2 GW solar added in H12024

According to JMK Research & Analytics, in H12024, India added 12,156 MW of solar capacity, a 78.9% increase from H12023, and 1,920 MW of wind capacity. This brought the total renewable energy (RE) capacity to 195 GW by June 2024, with solar energy contributing 44%. Utility-scale solar saw 9.6 GW added, driven by the ALMM exemption and lower module prices, with Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu leading in capacity. Rooftop solar added 1.8 GW, a 19.6% decrease, but the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana expected to add 2 GW more in H22024. Off-grid solar grew with 688 MW added, a 2.3-fold increase.
