Kuwait advances renewable energy with Shaqaya

The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, the Public-Private Partnership Authority, and the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, have recently coordinated for the Shaqaya Renewable Energy Project in Kuwait. Launched in 2019, this ambitious project is divided into four phases: 1,100 MW for the first phase, 200 MW for the second, 1,500 MW for the third, and 1,700 MW for the fourth, totaling at least 4,500 MW. Currently, the Public-Private Partnership Projects Authority is evaluating qualification documents for the first phase and preparing those for the second phase, which will be released soon. A consulting firm has been appointed to assess land use and integrate various renewable technologies, including solar and wind. This project is crucial for reducing government energy costs, fostering economic growth, creating jobs, and supporting Kuwait’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2060.
