Nestlé increases renewable energy share

Nestlé Deutschland has increased its renewable electricity share to 70%, powering production sites in Hamburg, Neuss, and Biessenhofen entirely with wind and solar energy. This aligns with Nestlé’s global strategy to reduce electricity consumption and switch to renewable energies by 2025. Through PPA with Swiss-based BKW, Nestlé Deutschland will source 80 GWh of electricity per year from German wind farms and photovoltaic installations by 2026. With a total energy requirement of 113 GWh per year, Nestlé will invest in new renewable energy systems and purchase guarantees of origin to cover the remaining 30%. This approach will surpass Germany’s average renewable energy share of 56% by more than 14%. As per the company, this initiative supports Nestlé’s climate targets of halving greenhouse gas emissions worldwide by 2030 and reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.
