European Energy has secured grid connection approvals for approximately 500 MW of solar and wind projects in Romania, positioning them for construction. Its development pipeline in Romania now exceeds 1.5 GW. Pursuing approvals for remaining projects is crucial for moving towards construction. Romania’s upcoming Contract for Difference (CfD) auction, part of its renewable energy support scheme, aims to facilitate an additional 5 GW of wind and solar projects. As per the company, Romania boasted 11.7 GW of renewable energy capacity with grid approvals by the end of 2023, according to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). European Energy foresees hybrid projects integrating solar, wind, and battery storage as pivotal. Clear regulations on guarantees of origin could enhance corporate power purchase agreements in Romania, fostering sustainable investment.
