Voltalia begins 126 MW Sarimay plant construction

Voltalia, an international renewable energy company, has begun constructing the 126 MW Sarimay Solar power plant in Uzbekistan, expected to be operational by late 2025. This project will prevent 116,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. Additionally, Voltalia has signed agreements to add 50 MW/100 MWh of battery storage to the Sarimay complex. The project, funded by the EBRD and JICA, was secured through a 2022 IFC tender. Contracts for the battery storage unit will be signed in summer 2024, with construction commencing the same year. In November 2023, Voltalia also signed a framework agreement for the 500 MW Artimisya hybrid complex in the Bukhara region, which will combine solar, wind, and battery storage.
